Hearth and Hamlet publishes four requirement blocks on Steam, two for Windows and two for Linux, and the most useful thing about them is how little they ask: 1 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM at the minimum, unchanged in every block.

The two Windows tiers

ComponentMinimumRecommended
OSWindows 10 (64-bit)Windows 11 (64-bit)

DirectXVersion 11Version 11

Both tiers begin with the standard line that the game requires a 64-bit processor and operating system, and both require a DirectX-compatible sound card.

Minimum spec in full

The store page gives the Windows minimum as a compact list rather than prose.

  • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit).
  • Processor: Intel Core i3 at 3.2 GHz or AMD equivalent.
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM.
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 with 2 GB VRAM or AMD Radeon HD 7770 with 2 GB VRAM.
  • DirectX: Version 11.
  • Storage: 1 GB available space.
  • Sound card: DirectX-compatible.

A 2012-era graphics card as the floor means the game is built to run almost anywhere, which matches a pixel-art citybuilder with a 1 GB install.

The recommended tier keeps DirectX 11 and the 1 GB install and raises the processor, memory and graphics card by one modest step each.

  • OS: Windows 11 (64-bit).
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-2400 at 3.1 GHz or AMD equivalent.
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM.
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti with 2 GB VRAM or AMD Radeon R7 260X with 2 GB VRAM.
  • DirectX: Version 11.
  • Storage: 1 GB available space.
  • Sound card: DirectX-compatible.

The gap between the two graphics cards is small, which is why 16 GB of recommended memory stands out: the memory line is a bigger jump than the GPU line.

The Linux requirement block

Linux gets its own published tiers rather than a note pointing at Proton.

The Linux minimum is Ubuntu 20.04 or newer, or SteamOS, with an Intel Core i3 at 3.2 GHz, 8 GB of RAM, a GTX 650 or HD 7770 with 2 GB of VRAM, and 1 GB of storage. The recommended tier keeps those operating systems and raises the rest to an Intel Core i5-2400 at 3.1 GHz, 16 GB of RAM and a GTX 750 Ti or R7 260X, still with 1 GB of storage.

The Linux blocks omit the DirectX and sound card lines that the Windows blocks carry, which is expected on a platform that does not use DirectX, but it means the four blocks are not identical in shape.

What the spec sheet does not say

Two things are missing: a resolution or frame-rate note, and any guidance on how large a kingdom is expected to run within those figures.

No 1080p target, no 4K line and no performance note appear anywhere in the four requirement blocks. The platform coverage is on Availability, and the systems the machine is asked to simulate are on How It Plays.
